Let There Be Light: The Light of Impact | Matthew 5:16 | Devotional

Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Isn’t a Christian supposed to be “Aw shucks” humble? Aren’t believers supposed to hide in a corner and not let the right hand know what the left hand is doing? Aren’t believers supposed to refrain from showing off? Not according to Jesus.

Jesus said that those who follow Him are to let their lights shine.
They are to let their lights shine for all to see. They are to live in such a way that the praise for their actions is not absorbed but reflected to the heavenly Father.

“Aw shucks” humble is not the call of God on our lives. True humility is not hiding; it’s obeying. Real humility is doing singleness, relationship, marriage, parenting, business…life…in such a way that God gets all the credit. The dark world can’t help but see you. Remember, you are the light of the world. So shine…for goodness sakes… shine! And make sure God gets all the glory.

Father, thank You for the privilege of being Your light in a dark world. Help us to shine for You in every area of our life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Join us on January 1 as we Journey Thru the Bible together. Following a schedule that will guide us through the entire Bible in 2012, I will write a devotional on a key verse in each passage and then provide a link for you to read that day’s passage. I will be extending the devotionals to Saturday and Sunday as well as the weekdays. Invite others to join us as we Journey Thru the Bible together!
