Let There Be Light: The Light of Impact | Matthew 5:15 | Devotional
Matthew 5:15
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
So the other night I went through the house and turned on every light. Then I built big black boxes and put each box over each light to stymie the glow. My work was done. I turned the lights on them and covered them over so their glow could not be seen. You say, “Ridiculous!” That’s exactly what Jesus said.
People don’t light a lamp and put in under a bowl. Lamps are meant to give off light and dispel the darkness. People light their lamps and place them on a stand so that the house can be illumined.
Because of Jesus, you are the light of the world. Get out from underneath the bowl and…shine!
Father, through Christ, You have made us to shine. Don’t let us cover the light of Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Join us on January 1 as we Journey Thru the Bible together. Following a schedule that will guide us through the entire Bible in 2012, I will write a devotional on a key verse in each passage and then provide a link for you to read that day’s passage. I will be extending the devotionals to Saturday and Sunday as well as the weekdays. Invite others to join us as we Journey Thru the Bible together!
